Lockdown 2.0 - Care to Hair the Natural way?

Image
November 2020, and we are not quite where we would like to be! Lockdown version 2.0 was hardly on our Xmas wish-list, and abiding by the rules certainly is not easy but we are all doing our best to pull through and get rid of this second wave. ...and talking about waves, with Hair Salons closed for the next few weeks, lockdown does present the perfect opportunity to reconcile with your natural texture.  But with most of us having to deal with zoom calls on a regular basis while working from home, how can you make sure you are more curly goddess than Guurl what's zat?  Curls and natural texture in general need to be handled as minimally as possible during styling to reduce frizz. Gentle scrunch drying is a good way to do it, but your best friend should most certainly be the diffuser . The Diffuser really is an under-rated piece of technology - the bowl-shaped attachment disperses the air flow from the hair dryer, helping dry your curls more evenly and gently, helping the ...

Why Olaplex is your go-to range for healthy hair.

Olaplex has been with us for a number of years now. At Hair Colour Studio we first came across Olaplex after seeing Kim Kardashian going blonde from her dark mane. How did she do it? We thought. The answer was Olaplex. Admittedly it took some 7 sessions of bleaching alternated with Olaplex treatments - yes it is not for the faint hearted and would also cost a bomb - and ideally staggered over a few months rather than days to slowly go lighter. However this does not take away from the fact that this was a game changer! But what is the science behind Olaplex? Olaplex was developed by Dr. Eric Pressly and Dr. Craig Hawker, two of the world's leading chemists. They invented a single ingredient chemistry that is free of silicones and oils. Olaplex links broken bonds in the hair before, during and after chemical services. Here they are explaining for all you Hair Geeks out there (courtesy of Olaplex.com) (If the video does not load hit this link: https://haircolours...

Caring for yourself and your aging hair.

Image
A woman reaches a certain age, and more often than not she is very likely to cut her hair short. But the question is: Is it because she wants to, or is it because it is what is expected of her? As we age our hair ages too, we can't escape that.. But what are the signs of aging hair? Firstly, It loses pigment! Those annoying grays! the reason for your first mild heart attack - the realization that your body is actually physically telling you:  you are getting older! Technically all that is really happening is that we are losing Melanin pigment , which is what gives our skin and hair its colour. Melanin is also what we get from the sun while sun-bathing - but sadly that does not effect our hair. As we loose that pigment the hair also tends to become finer and the regrowth slows down, which is why it feels like we go from a full head of hair to half the amount - which is also the reason why we can never seem to be able to go longer than a certain point. These a...

Olaplex - the hair revolution is here!

Image
If you are colouring your hair you should be looking at Olaplex! - It really is as simple as that! Olaplex has been around in the U.S. for just over a year but it has only just hit the UK shores with just a handful of salons offering the service - but rest assured this is just going to be super huge! Olaplex first came to our attention thanks to Kim Kardashian,.... her super transformation from a dark Brunette to a Blonde baffled the lot of us, some because they thought it is insane, some because they thought it did not suit her, others because she was trying too hard!.... but what most hair stylists were thinking was: 'How does she still have hair?' - and the answer to that is Olaplex! So what is Olaplex? Well, the actual ingredient is a bit of a big mystery, though the speculation is that it is some sort of polymer that is activated with peroxide and coats the hair, but quite frankly I'm not gonna go all Sheldon Cooper on you for as long as the results a...
