Lockdown 2.0 - Care to Hair the Natural way?

Image
November 2020, and we are not quite where we would like to be! Lockdown version 2.0 was hardly on our Xmas wish-list, and abiding by the rules certainly is not easy but we are all doing our best to pull through and get rid of this second wave. ...and talking about waves, with Hair Salons closed for the next few weeks, lockdown does present the perfect opportunity to reconcile with your natural texture.  But with most of us having to deal with zoom calls on a regular basis while working from home, how can you make sure you are more curly goddess than Guurl what's zat?  Curls and natural texture in general need to be handled as minimally as possible during styling to reduce frizz. Gentle scrunch drying is a good way to do it, but your best friend should most certainly be the diffuser . The Diffuser really is an under-rated piece of technology - the bowl-shaped attachment disperses the air flow from the hair dryer, helping dry your curls more evenly and gently, helping the curl's

Autumn 2020: Colour trends round up.

It's nothing new really, we all of a sudden start scrambling for the fluffy jumpers, start with a light jacket, maybe a silk scarf?  Next thing you know the central heating is going up and oh look maybe it's time to dig out the puffa jacket afterall! Autumn always seems to hit us when we least expect it, but as much as I love the warm weather and all things summer, as a Colourist there isn't a more exciting time than Autumn, and that is all thanks to the exciting hues that come with the season. Of course warm tones always prevail during the season (which is probably why I personally enjoy it so much) and most of us statistically really do like to have a bit of a change when the seasons change, but our favourite time for a change is in fact around these autumn months. So let's get the ball rolling on the Autumn shades that will tickle your fancy this year! But we will start with the boring one! Block Brown As up-beat as we are, of course these Corona-times had to rear i

Post-Lockdown: What to expect when we re-open.

Already a month has passed since we were eagerly awaiting the UK governments extensive 50-page plan for easing the lockdown, us very much like most people thought - shops are re-opening mid-June that is ok... let's get ready for this. Sadly that notion was destroyed the day after by Dominic Raab who explained that hair salons are not shops and re-opening will be in phase 3 and that is July. With Dentists opening this week it is a bit' insult to injury' - but we will leave that whole argument! So while we hope that we will be opening in July here are some things that will change, and some new measures we will be implementing. Of course at Hair Colour Studio we are quite lucky that our regular running of the salon is already in-line with making the salon a safe space post-lockdown: We always worked strictly by appointments only - so no walk-ins. We only have one-to-one services so you know your stylist will be with you for all your service. Being a s

Working from Home: How to have Zoom-ready hair during lock down

Just 3 months ago, we were all celebrating the New Year, as always we were imagining what it is going to be like - 'a year of change' some screamed, 'an exciting year of opportunity' others hoped for - but definitely no one could have quite predicted that we would be in the situation we are in right now! Three months in and we are stuck at home with a virus that has wreaked havoc through all of our lives  - definitely no one saw this one coming! At Hair Colour Studio we are quite used to having you around when you are 'working from home' - but with self-isolation and a national lock down - working from home is really doing what it says on the tin. Yes at first the novelty is fun - days in pj's and laptops sound great... but then a few days pass by... next thing you now it is a week, and then it's 10 days - and just like that - it's your ROOTS! Sudden panic ensues what am I going to do with my hair when I can't leave the house and

New Year, New Me: 5 realistic hair resolutions.

Happy New Year! It's 2020, and I am still trying to figure out where the decade has gone! With a new year as always comes that slightly guilt-ridden feeling that you should be making some resolutions in an attempt to be that better human being we all aspire to be. Of course we fail most of the times, because we quickly tend to forget to be kind - because let's face it as humans we are just not built that way. But what about a new decade? does that make resolutions more important? - more somewhat life affirming? a list of seismic power and proportion? Well, as you well know this is not the kind of blog that will preach how to better yourself... but it will give you a list of resolutions that you may be able to stick to a bit easier than helping grannies cross the road.... Welcome to 2020's Hair Resolutions! - probably the most achievable resolutions you will ever make in your life! 1.     Treat your Hair weekly. It is one of those things t
