What is Contouring?

Image
So we have been mentioning contouring in our last few blogs - and yes, we have been going a bit contouring crazy at the Hair Colour Clinic, but with a trend that works for every face shape it is difficult to let it all slip by - especially when a technique so simple can make such a difference! So this month we decided to give you a proper in depth explanation of the hottest trend at the moment! So what is Hair Contoruing? Well just like the contouring trend with make-up the same basis is used for hair colour. It is in fact a combination of free hand or highlighting techniques using carefully positioned tones and depths around the face to give different results and optical illusions to compliment the bone structure and facial features, making your face appear more defined. The 100%  bespoke hair technique means it will suit every face shape making it a sure winner for the festive season. So how does it work for each face shape? Well if you have an oval face shape you are

Conversations with my hair stylist!

An ex flat-mate of mine once told me, what she found impressive in me is that I always managed to put myself in another person's shoes. Some may call it being somewhat empathic, others just being a bit devil's advocate... But what I really would like to be is telepathic! That would be such an amazing quality to have as a hair stylist, because getting what a client is after is not always as plain sailing as you would like it to be. Which made me think - maybe my flat-mate Eliza was onto something there! I may be empathic - but the telepathic bit is missing, and perhaps it is because I have not put myself into the client's shoes often enough. So what could be going wrong in the communication? You have all been in a salon when suddenly stylists go all Bingo on you... letters are replaced by numbers yet somehow they understand each other (but you are still hearing numbers), and while it has been decided that you are going to become a 7/73 you are still none the wis

Autumn... It is that moment when the layers need to be doubled and looking at a skimpy dress or a tank top gives you the shivers! - when you wear way too little for the day, but turns to way too much when you are on the Tube! - it is that time of year when your wardrobe becomes an enigma - it's the beginning of Autumn! But on the upside it is a great time to experiment with those Earthy Autumn shades that do not look quite right at other times of the year..... and Hair is no exception, though this year these lovely shades sound like they came straight out of the Great British Bake-Off   rather than your favourite colour technician, and they are very yummy indeed...  Here are our favourites!...... Pumpkin Spice! With Halloween round the corner there could not be a more perfectly timed colour.  Our favourite seasonal Latte has just turned into Hot Hair Trend. It is not quite looking like a pumpkin, but having a golden brown or auburn base tone with added Copper

Up-light Ombre for Summer 2016

We got summer! - it's 32 degrees .... for like 1 day, so I hope you are making the most out of it... I write this blog - and head straight to the Park! Now before you start imagining me with some bottle of Soave on a checked blanket with Posh Cheese and Biscuits... think again , because like a good fraction of the nation I have succumbed to Pokemon Go! - Yes there will be wine - and a blanket (which is actually a black  tibetan monk type sheer from the Himalayas - thanks to www.likemary.com) but at some point I will be chasing Jiggly Puff in Hampstead Heath - and that is not a euphemism! - it's a Pokemon Character... As a fan of all things Manga this comes as no surprise, but Pokemon Go has been getting quite a bit of bad press, but quite frankly if an app gets people off their arses and up and go... can't be that bad... it will make you walk far more than your FitBit will! Talking about FitBit... I need to have a bit of rant about the Gym.... Is it just me or wa

MET ball and the supersonic...

Sunshine does happen in London! - we had a whole week of sunshine! - who would have thought - let's just hope that that holds on! It was also a week that saw Celebs on the other side of the pool head to the MET Gala, and as you may remember from previous blogs, we do like to take a look at what happens on this uber-stylish and sometimes somewhat oddly themed night This year's theme, courtesy as always from chair-woman Anna Wintour was: 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an age of technology' -  a theme that   left plenty of space for the celebrity's imagination (or rather their stylist's). So we had bondage tape , silver foil, dark make-up, hair towers.... well in a nut-shell it did not disappoint.... The Metropolitan Museum of At Costume Institute Benefit - better known as the MET Gala started in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert, it was then simply called the Costume Institute Gala , The star-studded night attracts some 600 invitees, you can buy a tick
