Braveheart, Ponytails and Bugs - It's London Fashion Week!
It is that time of the year! - It's Fashion Week, when the whole fashion and Beauty world goes mental, where shoes are lost and dresses are misplaced, assistants screech, the stylist and the Make-Up Artist have a tiff - and someone is fired. Sounds like Devil wears Prada - but it's the truth.
Luckily we can ignore the backstage and head to the catwalk where it all happens and dictates what's happening in the months to come, and boy do we have a choice to go through next year!
whether you fancy Messy, Sleek , Colourful, Tribal Chic, or fancy yourself as a Bug! (yes really) - it was all there!
One thing is for sure next Spring/Summer we are going to want our hair off our face!... the pony-tail is keeping it's rise as a firm favourite for next year's hotter months, with different variations to the 'easy-way-out' style, from the beautifully wrap version at Marios Schwab, the knotty one at Christopher Raeburn, or the semi-braid at David Koma.
pony-tails are here to stay in 2014.
The first day of London fashion week gave us a flash of colour, as a hot pink wet-look combo went down the catwalk at Fyodor Golan... and that was not the end of our colourful surprises with the very clever L'Oreal Hair Chalk Hair pieces at Ashish giving us a proper splash of it!
and more colour came at us at Meadham Kirchhoff...with an uncanny resemblance to London's Charity Event 'Wig Party' host - Wiggy Woo Woo!
But enough about doppelgangers and back to the fashion world...
Wet texture was another key look on the catwalks. This trend has been around for a while - as we wrote in an earlier blog in July.... and looks like the trend has also filtered to London fashion week.
House Of Holland went for the wet top and drier ends, Thomas Tait gave us the 'dip-dye' effect version, while Eudon Choi went for the full-wet look, which though looks great on a catwalk it rarely makes it to our streets - (that's probably because you would catch a cold even in the height of summer!)
So where was the Glamour?....I hear you say... well that was safe in the hands of fashion houses like Temperly and Bora Aksu... but our personal favourite and gorgeously glamorous show was Pearce Fionda's showcase of gorgeous gowns and slick shiny knots held firmly with a net.
Other relaxed up-do's seem to take a side-approach to it all, as seen at the Halloween-ready spooky-vixens at Vivienne Westwood Red Label. A slightly healthier and a bit more 'alive' look could be found at Holly Fulton, while Mark Fast took zombie-like bed-head mornings (we all know too well) to another level!
Even though we have had a bit of a braid-overdose the last few years it looks like they have no intention of leaving our hair next year either, as LFW had it's fair share of tribal hair-spirations too, Simone Rocha's take on the Mohican made the somewhat savage hair-style look cleverly elegant... Antonio Berardi's boho-braveheart made it tribal without feeling too period, while Giles gave us beautiful braid work courtesy of Sacha Mascolo and Indira Schauwecker.
So we got quite a few months till the the fashion circus comes to town once more, like every year we had the GORGEOUS the COLOURFUL and the WONDERFUL, but if you really want to make a statement next year look no further than this weird but genius bug-wannabe look at Sophia Webster.
