Air Touch: the must have hair trend of 2018
It's a new year - and like every year we always look for new things to tempt us and excite us, and 2018 is no different!
So what is the next big thing?
Thankfully Ombre has died... and there was some bad Ombre! (even Trump had to comment!)
it was a loooong, sloooow death.... but finally it's gone... passe' - FIN - I - TO. ..
The Hip-word of 2016-17 though was certainly 'Balayage'.
The Media loved Balayage and it was EVERYWHERE - celebrities latched onto it and so there it was, the resurgence of quite frankly a very old french system of free-hand highlighting - but let's face it we all loved it! - but no one quite got what was the difference between ombre and balayage.... and what about balayage with ombre?
But while the masses are still catching up on Balayage, and what results are achieved with the technique... the ones in the know have a new magic word: and that is AirTouch.
AirTouch is likely to become the new 'Ombre' and 'Balayge' this year.... and after trying the technique over the last few months of 2017 we can definitely see why.
When we got to know about AirTouch we were dying to give it a try! Thankfully we have clients that love giving something new a go - thanks Tatiana! 😉
At Hair Colour Studio we love stunning natural looking colour, so when we saw the result of this technique looking so natural we were rightfully excited!
AirTouch started in Russia ..the stylist behind this technique: Vladimir Sarbashev, who pretty much became on overnight sensation, explains he was not quite ready for it - but will never be looking back! He has now been travelling the world channeling this exciting new technique which is bound to spread like wildfire! (in a good way of course!)
But what is AirTouch?
AirTouch is a technique were hair is highlighted in foils or clear film as opposed to the freehand techniques of the last few years.
So what is difference I hear you say? two things mainly..
Firstly the sectioning of the hair is very different as it is worked far more diagonally than your more linear 'regular' highlights.
Diagonal work is quite common for us at Hair Colour Studio as our 'Scatter Lights' works in the same way, making it a great system to mix up with airtouch. Giving a more versatile movement in the hair itself that helps create a more natural-looking result.
But the real difference one sees is in the application: while we are used to having your stylist weaving a section of hair to create those fine (or not) highights, with AirTouch, we literally get the air to do the weave.
after grabbing a section a hair dryer is used to blow a jet of air on to the strand pushing out the baby hair from that section leaving the longer strands to be highlighted. This means that the 'baby', but also the potentially damaged thinner hair which is fragile is left outside the foils and not processed, so left to thrive making air touch a great system for people who are worried about condition or would like to grow their hair and are looking for a 'healthier form of highlighting.
Because the lights are so fine the blend with one's natural hair is impressive making airtouch the colour technique for all those looking for an amazingly natural colour results. Regrowth in the next few months are automatically also a lot easier too.
We find AirTouch a must for clients with fine hair, giving depth and the illusion of more volume while highlighting with less stress on the hair too. It is definitely the way forward!
2018 just got a little bit more exciting!
